The story

The tale follows Elphaba, the adulterine daughter of the wife of Munchkinland’s governor. Despite her family and identity struggles, Elphaba makes it into the highly regarded Shiz University, where she bunks with social butterfly Galinda. Two complete opposites don't take to each other at first but soon befriend.

After a while, things go downhill when Elphaba notices nefarious crimes against the Animals, a sentient race often targeted by persecution. Galinda and Elphaba seek the Wizard for help, but the Wizard unfortunately offers little assistance. A let-down Elphaba leaves the Emerald City to fight for the Animals, leaving everything else behind.

Meanwhile, Galinda marries Fiyero, the Captain of the Guard, and pursues an socialite lifestyle. Elphaba returns and accidently wins Fiyero’s admiration as he falls in love with her. Will the couple’s love grow unburdened, or will Elphaba’s political drive push Fiyero away, and ruin her?
